We are writing to you because we know you care about the Japanese Cultural Fair. The fact of the matter is the fair may not happen this year without your help. Unfortunately, we were unable to secure one of our major grants of $7500 which represented half of the cost of putting on the fair this year. This jeopardizes whether or not we will be able to have the fair and therefore we are appealing to you to help make this year's fair possible.

The Japanese Cultural Fair of Santa Cruz is a nonprofit organization. Because of this tough economy, we know that many small arts organizations are struggling this year. For the many people who will never have the opportunity to visit Japan, the fair is their only chance to experience authentic Japanese arts, culture, and traditions. For twenty-two years, the fair has provided an opportunity for North Americans to increase their awareness and understanding of Japanese culture. We believe that through education, entertainment, and exposure to their arts, crafts, cuisine and customs, we can improve mutual understanding among neighbors of the Pacific Rim and enrich our community life here and throughout the United States.

We strive to bring you this free event on a shoestring and so a donation of any amount (even $5) will make a difference given the small scale of our budget. With your financial support we can continue to provide the high level of excellence we have had in the past.
